Home Therapies

Alaska Dialysis is proud to offer a home dialysis program that offers the same state of the art equipment and supplies, delivered right to your door. Studies show that home dialysis can improve your sense of well-being and allow for greater quality of life with decreased risk of hospitalizations and complications. All home dialysis patients have access to a home dialysis nurse 24 hours a day if assistance is needed. This includes access to a technical support team for equipment issues. Dialyzing at home allows for more flexibility with care which leaves you feeling healthier and happier.

Peritoneal Dialysis

Peritoneal dialysis, or PD, is one choice for home dialysis treatment. There are no needles in this type of treatment, rather a small catheter is surgically placed into the peritoneal cavity (part of your abdominal cavity) as an access point for dialysis. Patients have options to dialyze during waking or sleeping hours, allowing for more flexibility. Portable therapy allows for ease of travel. Health benefits can include more energy and better blood pressure control.

Home Hemodialysis

Patients have many advantages with home hemodialysis. Most patients dialyze more often at home, usually 4-5 times per week, which allows for fewer dietary and fluid restrictions. A specially prepared dialysis access is needed to perform hemodialysis. The forearm is a common site for a hemodialysis access. Without three trips to a dialysis clinic during the week, you can choose the dialysis schedule that works best for you.
